Your puppy is being weaned onto Pawtree “Real Chicken & Sweet Potato”  and  “White  Fish & Brown Rice”

We feed a mixture of these formulas to our puppies so that you can choose a grain free or healthy grain recipe. We prefer the grain free sweet potato formula. (we are not worried about heart disease with this food!) You will need to continue with this food to prevent digestive upset. Do not feed something different at this point. Changing a puppys’ dog food suddenly is a sure way to cause a severe case of diarrhea and discomfort.  Your puppy will already be slightly stressed going to a new home and keeping him/her on the same food will help to minimize that stress and reduce the chance of developing diarrhea. We want the transition of your puppy from our home to yours to go as smoothly as possible.You won’t find pawTree on store shelves because this company prides itself in delivering fresh food to your door. Generally the food is no more than six weeks from the day it was made when you receive it. It ships directly from the company to you, ensuring the utmost in quality and freshness. 

 

 We recommend the "Chicken and Oatmeal” or  ``Whitefish and Brown Rice” (Poultry free option)  formula for puppies. These recipes are high in calories which is needed for a growing puppy. Order one bottle of the Paw Pairings seasonings for each bag of food and use the seasonings to help your pup keep interest in your food.  We suggest beginning to cycle (food rotation) your dogs’ food around 3-6 months.  It provides them with variety which is important not just for appetite but for health. Like with humans a varied diet is healthy for dogs. It keeps them interested in their food. It enhances the diversity of their microbiome. It reduces the risk of allergies and food intolerances, as well as helping avoid potential issues such as the nutritionally associated dilated cardiomyopathy that has been in pet news recently. Food rotation can be done on any schedule, from daily to quarterly (every few months depending on your lifestyle). If life is just easier without rotating food, do not stress over it. 

 

 You will need to order at least one bag of this food to help keep the initial transition to a new home as stress free as possible--a new puppy with diarrhea is not fun for anyone and it can lead to outbreaks of things like giardia! We strongly encourage you to continue feeding PawTree for at least the first year and prefer you to do so for the life of your dog. If you choose to transition your puppy to a different food we ask that you do your research when considering what food you choose and then gradually transition over to the new food using the “gastro pro plus” to help with the transition.

We have been researching and trying different dog foods for years.  We are always consulting with fellow breeders and veterinarians to find the best way to care for our dogs and babies and we have found a company who provides just that for us and our puppies.  The dog food ‘Pawtree’ is made here in the USA. I used to think that it was convenient to be able to go to the store to pick up my dog food but now I never run out and need to go to the store. I’ve found that to be much more convenient.  It just shows up and is ready for you before you ever run out.  It comes directly to your door every 1-3 months (Depending on the schedule you set but we suggest you start with a 45 day cycle).  Having an EZ Ship order set up will save you 25% on all shipping costs. A few useful tips to know when ordering your dog food:

*Instead of ordering the 10.3 lbs bag, order the X-Large  30.9 lbs bag and you will save about 30% on the price of your dog food. These X-large 30.9 lbs bags actually come packaged in 3 smaller 10.3 lbs easy to handle sizes.

*We estimate that each bag of food contains approximately 44 cups. The food may seem expensive, but if you feed your small puppy ½ a cup a day it costs you about  $8.40-$10 per month. 1 bag at ½ a cup a day will last about 12.5 weeks. 

If you feed your medium puppy ¾ a cup  a day it costs you about  $12.60-$15 per month. 1 bag at ¾  a cup a day will last about 8 weeks

If you feed your  puppy 1 cup a day it costs you about $16.75-20-$ per month. 1 bag at 1 cup a day will last about  6  weeks. 

If you feed your puppy 1.5 cups a day is cost you about $26-$31 per month. 1 bag at 1.5 cups a day will last about 4 weeks

We like to put these in the puppies crate as we are crate training to give them a positive crate experience. Your puppy will be coming home with one of these.  They are a better option to use in place of a rawhide and the puppies and adult dogs LOVE them.  We  recommend that you not give your puppy raw hides.  Rawhides are made with lots of chemicals and can also cause obstructions and get stuck or caught in the GI tract and we do not recommend you feed them to your dogs.
