The puppies are in their third week of puppy kindergarten and they are doing awesome!  This week they worked on loose leash walking and continued to practice 'wait' before they get food or treats.  They review the basics--sit, down, come with a few tricks added in every day as well.  They all love their crates and sleep through the night and are totally potty trained.  They will be ready to go home in 2 weeks!

May 19, 2023

The babies are ten weeks and ready for their new families!  They are all amazingly healthy--a trait we love to see from our F1 English goldendoodle roots.  These babies have a little more golden retriever than many of our multi-generation lines because their mama is fifth percent English Golden retriever.  These babies love to be with us and the love to run and play outside. T hey all use a dog door to go potty outside.

Lolli's babies are four weeks old today! They moved over to the 'big kid' area where they are sleeping in crates and are just starting to learn the dog door.  They are doing awesome at only going potty in the designated potty area in their pen.  We will work with them on going outside to go potty and they should have the dog door down in a couple of weeks! They are just entering the really fun stage where they get so excited when we interact and play with them.  We work with them on meeting new people and new toys and experiences every day.  These experiences set the foundation for future personalities and people interactions.

The babies have moved to the family room with us now that Lolli isn't as nervous about having people near her babies.  We still keep interaction to mostly just our immediate family but we like to have the babies where they can hear and feel us daily.  They all have their eyes open and they are getting better and better at toddling around. We have started potty training by making half of their box into a paper lined potty area.  As they get accustomed to leaving their sleeping mat to to potty they are learning that they need to find an area outside of their 'nest' to go potty.  They will eventually learn that everything in the house counts as part of their nest and they will look for opportunities to go outside to go potty.  In the next couple of weeks we will move them over to the 'big kid' area where they have access to a dog door and they will learn to go outside to go potty.  They have also had their first sent of routine dewormer and they have had their nails trimmed.  We continue to handle each puppy every day so they can get accustomed to grooming and living with their families.

March 21, 2023

Lolli and the babies are all doing great.  They are still in the neonatal period where the babies have their eyes closed and they spend their days creeping around to stay close to mama and huddled together with each other.  This week they will open their eyes and start toddling around their box.  They haven't found their little voices yet but they will start making more and more noise over the next couple of weeks.  We will continue to handle each puppy every day to help them develop resilient nervous systems and to prepare them for training and human companionship. Mama Lolli is doing great as long as she gets plenty of food--her serving size has nearly tripled to over five cups a day.  We always make sure to add our salmon oil and gastro-pro plus to make sure she is getting all the nutrition these little babes demand.

March 13, 2023

Lolli and Maverick have babies!  Lolli delivered nine puppies Saturday March 11, 2023.  Her labor was quick and easy.  The tiniest little girl didn't make it despite my best attempts to help her.  I have only lost two puppies because they were tiny in almost ten years.  I carried her next to my skin and helped her with supplemental feedings but she died the day after she was born.  This happens sometimes but it is always one of the hardest parts of delivering puppies for me.

Lolli and the other eight babies are all doing great!  Everyone is nursing and creeping around their box to stay close to each other and to nurse from mom.  Lolli doesn't like to have other people or dogs around her newborns for the first 2 weeks we we limit visitors to just our immediate family.  She loves to have us sit next to her and scratch behind her ears and she will eat everything we give her!  We will gently handle each puppy every day and we will let mama Lollli do her job as mom.

We have dog door trained puppies over here!  I always love the day I wake up and find the puppy paper totally clean. They run in and out of the door and play on the (finally turning green...) grass. We trade toys and activities every day.  They are learning to pay attention when we call and to take soft treats out of our hands.  They are all eating hard puppy food (PawTree chicken and sweet potato). We will start introducing the clicker this week and we will keep introducing new experiences and new kids and new toys every day!

This week we have completely transitioned over to softened kibble. The babies are using the dog door to go outside and they have almost stopped using the paper tray in their pen to go potty.  They all sleep in two separate crates and they pile in on top of each other for every nap and bedtime. They are teething so they spend a lot of their day chewing on each other and on all the toys they can find.  This is an important developmental step for them to learn how to use their teeth without causing any damage.

Mama Lolli is still nursing whenever the puppies can catch her! They are ready to transition over to all dry food but nursing is still familiar and comforting as they are learning so many different things.  We introduce new people, sounds or toys every day to help  with developing new neuro-pathways and social skills.

March 7, 2022

The babies have made leaps and bound of growth this week!  They moved over to the 'toddler' room where there are learning to use paper for their potty area. They are also sleeping altogether in a crate for naps and nighttime. They have just started showing interest in mama's food so we will start mushy puppy food this week.  We start slowly with just one solid feeding a day and gradually move up to three feedings a day.  They will stay on the three-a-day schedule until they are ready to go home at 8 weeks.

These babies aren't quite big enough to use the dog door yet but as they get a little bigger and the weather gets warmer they will start venturing outside with mama. Initially we introduce the puppies to the door by physically helping them push the flap with their heads.  Sometimes this takes a couple of days for them to get the hang of it and some puppies will take on the challenge more quickly than others.  When we have a reluctant puppy we will pin the flap up out of the way so he can gradually explore going outside to get the reward of food. We teach them to go back in this same way--we just push them through the door and they figure it out in no time.  We've never had a puppy that didn't figure the dog door out on their own within a couple of days.  The puppies naturally follow mom out the dog door--usually hoping she will let them nurse for a minute which is a great reward for trying a new experience.   As they spend more time outside (they go outside in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day...) they naturally go potty outside more and more.  They also see mom go potty outside which helps develop that instinct.

February 21, 2022

Lolli has eight beautiful babies!  She delivered all eight on Tuesday, February 8th.  We have five girls and three boys.  They were all born super healthy and active and Lolli is a committed mama.  She has had not trouble nursing and keeping everyone warm and clean and happy!  We are waiting for genetic testing to come back on one of the boys so I won't know if our solid boy will be available until we get those results and we are reserving first pick of the females for our breeding program.  We have a few factors to evaluate before we decide if one of these girls will be a good fit for out future breeding goals.  The other six are all available!

September 27, 2021

The babies are almost seven weeks!  We are really enjoying these puppies!  They are all doing great--they have very similar personalities/energy levels and we don't have any that are noticably busy or shy. They enjoy being held and snuggled and they area all progressing just as we expect.  They are sleeping in crates (together, not separately) and they are all using the dog door to go outside to go potty 100% of the time.  They Just started eating hard crunch food this week and we just started working with each puppy individually to take treats and introduce the clicker. They just finished their 5-day treatment with de-wormer and will be ready to go home when they are 8 weeks!  This next week we will have vet checks with first shots and we will continue to work with each puppy.  I'll include a video of training as we progress!

Thank you all so much for your patience this summer.  We have had such a great few months but it's been busy! I am sending out texts for these puppies this week and weekend and we will have phone calls/facetime visits by early next week.

Lolli's babies are doing so great!  We have kind of been keeping all of these cute puppies to ourselves this summer.  We had a brand new grand baby born (our first!) and our son just got married this last weekend!  It's been a joy to have these sweet puppies and mamas here and they've done so well accommodating our cousins and visiting family.

These babies are just about to start learning the dog door to go potty!  Right now they are using a paper potty area next to the dog door and they are just starting to show interest in following mom out the dog door to the grassy yard.  They are usually between 5-6 weeks before they can really navigate through the door to the outside but once they figure it out they love to go in and out.  They all have their little teeth erupting and they are walking on steady feet.  We moved their whelping box so they are sleeping in crates.  They love the big soft round beds--we stuff the beds in the crates and they all pile in!

They are spending a few hours each day outside in the beautiful mild fall weather.  Mom is always out with them when they are outside. T hey love the grass and are getting braver and braver with their exploring.  This socialization period is important to help shape temperament and reaction to different kinds of stimulation.

This week we will introduce solid mush!  It's always a huge mess and really fun for the babies.  I'll make sure to get some pictures!

Lolli has seven beautiful puppies!  She delivered puppies on August 10th and all were born active and healthy.  Lolli is a sweet mom and her babies are growing and thriving like crazy! We have one cream colored girl and the others are all apricot and/or red.

We had a beautiful Spring day today.  The puppies spend time every day playing in the grassy back yard.  Today we practiced 'sit to say please'  which is just helping to condition a 'calm down' response in get what they want. We are just starting to use the clicker and teach a sit cue. The babies are doing great paying attention and are learning so quickly!  I always recommend teaching 'attention' as one of the first most important things to teach a puppy.  Teaching attention is simple--use a favorite treat and give it to your puppy every time she looks at you.  Puppies will do what is reinforced so take the opportunity to reinforce behavior that you like. Training is really about communication and paying attention is the first step in that process.

The babies will be going to their new homes this weekend.  If you haven't taken time to read through all of our take home information now is the time to take a look! We have included all of our favorite tips and tricks to help with a smooth transition.

February 24, 2021

I've added a new video above!  The puppies are all growing and learning right on schedule. The babies have moved to the toddler pen and they are all going in and out the dog door.  This week the puppies will begin to spend more time outside during the day when we have nice weather.  They will eventually spend time outside every day sun, rain or snow.  All dogs need to be comfortable with going outside in all kinds of weather and these babies love to play in the snow or sun!

The puppies are all very steady on their feet now and are getting really playful (especially with each other).  They are doing great with their potty training by using the potty area about 95% of the time and they are keeping their beds clean all of the time. Right now they go potty outside when they happen to be outside but they haven't developed the habit of always going outside.  That will come over the next two weeks.

The babies are all sleeping in crates.  They don't sleep alone at this point--they still need each other for comfort and warmth.

The puppies have been eating mush food--they are ready to transition to softened kibble. We will keep offering soft food until they all have their molars.

This is week three of the socialization period. This week the puppies have begun to learn and be shaped by other adult dogs in the household but especially mom.  Learning dog manners is a skill that can only be taught by other dogs! We always watch interactions with other dogs closely. Mom is really the best teacher as she will stop or pin puppies that are overly energetic or that aren't picking up on cues to settle down.  This interaction is important to learning good dog social skills. They are also learning how to use their teeth without causing damage.  They teach each other that lesson as they constantly mouth and play with each other.

We will give the puppies their Neopar vaccines this week.  Neopar helps develop immunity to Parvo--it is the only vaccine that is effective at this young age as these puppies still have passive immunity from nursing with mom.  Some vets prefer to give full immunizations at 6 weeks of age but shots at this early stage are less than 30% effective.  They have a much better immune response at 8 weeks. Our neonatal specialist recommends waiting until 8 weeks for full immmunization.  Parvo is the most prevalent puppy illness so getting a head start with Neopar is important.  We will talk more about vaccines in the take home information.

This week our puppies usually hit what is called a fear period.  This period can last only an hour or a few days.  We will take extra care to be sure that if they exhibit any fear towards anything we will scale back and individually help them overcome those fears slowly.  Yawning, crying, hiding or avoiding are all signs of fear in a puppy. This is also the week we begin "Manding" with the puppies.  Manding is teaching the puppy to sit to 'say please.'  This type of sit is not a cued behavior (we aren't asking them to sit), we are just instilling a natural instinct to settle down and sit calmly to get what they want.  It's a way for them to communicate with us in a polite way.  We simply approach them with a handful of soft treats and we give a treat to any puppy sitting quietly.  We ignore the puppies that are jumping and pawing us.  Eventually they all catch on that sitting nicely is what gets the reward.  Peer pressure is a great thing with puppies! By the end of this week they will all have caught on and will begin expressing this very desirable behavior whenever we approach the pen.

Everyone has their eyes open and this past week the babies all started to toddle around really well and have started to find their little voices. Tomorrow we will introduce a new bed/sleeping area along with our new pee/pooping area to help start these little ones on a path to easier potty training. In the beginning we have one soft bed area and the rest of the pen is potty area.  We use the puppies' natural instinct to keep their bed clean to help with potty training--the minute they step off their bed to go potty they will be in the desired area. Once they are accustomed to use the paper/grate area for potty we will be able to make their play/sleep area bigger.

This week puppies will leave the transitional period and will enter the socialization period.  During this time their ears open and they begin to hear.  The puppies live in our living room so they are naturally exposed to a variety of noises that will help them adjust to family life: TV/movies in the background, children playing, vacuums running etc.are all familiar sounds to these babies.  Over the next we will also work on some startle recovery exercises. For startle recovery exercises we will randomly make sudden unusual noises that may startle the puppies ever so slightly to help shape their emotional responses. We watch closely to make sure there isn't a fear response and if necessary we will work with individual puppies more gradually to help them adjust to the noises.

Lolli delivered 8 sweet puppies on Wednesday January 20th.  We have six girls and two boys. All eight were born healthy and active and Lolli has easily settled into her role as a new mama.

The puppies have transitioned through delivery are now in the Neonatal period. The Neonatal period last for two weeks.  During this time we pay close attention to the little pups to be sure each is thriving and growing. We watch weights and observe feedings to make sure everyone is eating and gaining weight.  Momma does most of the work right now and we just do a lot of observation.  Mom will tend and care for her puppies instinctively and make sure all is well by keeping them fed, clean, and warm. She licks constantly to stimulate their elimination systems and to keep them clean. We will begin Early Neurological Stimulation on day three.  ENS is a an exercise developed by puppy behaviorists and trainers that is designed to stimulate neuro-pathway growth and start the physiological basis for stress resistant and predictable neurological development. Is takes only a few seconds per puppy. We hold each puppy upright, head-down down and flat on the back.  Then we apply pressure to one paw near the toes and then set them on a cold cloth.  Each exercise is done for to 2-3 seconds. We will also clip sharp little toenails as needed.
